Conquering the Spirit of Fear

What is fear?

1. An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
2. Being afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.
3. Concern about what may happen: worrying

Greek definition: deilia – timidity (by implication faithless)

Passage of Teaching: 2 Chronicles 20:1 - 30
Please read in order to gain understanding on conquering the spirit of fear.

Main Idea of Teaching: 2 Chronicles 20:3
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

How do I conquer fear?

1. Ask the Lord for help and seek Him (2 Chronicles 20:4)

2. Begin to remind the Lord of His word and the things that He has done in the past. Remember to put God in remembrance regarding His word. (2 Chronicles 20:6 - 7).

3. Hear what God is saying regarding the matter (2 Chronicles 20:14 - 15)

4. Follow instructions (2 Chronicles 20:16 - 17)

5. Worship and praise the Lord (2 Chronicles 20:18 - 19)

2 Chronicles 20:20:
…Believe in the Lord your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper

Remember:

  • Praise is a weapon of warfare (2 Chronicles 20:22)
  • For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)
  • Also know that it is okay if you do not know what to do (2 Chronicles 20:12 states: … neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon you). Seek God in the matter and He will lead you in the right direction
